Who We Are

“The ‘Aiga Singers offer everyone a place at the table.”

‘Aiga Means Family

We are a Missoula-based choral ensemble that promotes, premieres, produces, and performs underrepresented diverse music of the Pacific and beyond. ‘Aiga Singers officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in April 2024. Through our music, we strive to empower, inspire, and build community. ‘Aiga is a Samoan word that means “family.” Building off of our organization’s central meaning, one of the core missions of ‘Aiga Singers is to build an inclusive support community through a shared love of music. Through this connection and collaboration, we also work to showcase works by non-Western composers. For the past year, we have been developing and expanding our choral repertoire and are excited to tour in New York City in March and April of 2025. This will be a historic moment as we take part in performing a choral work in collaboration with renowned Indigenous American choral artists. Iholba’, written in the Chickasaw language, created by Chickasaw composer Jerod Impichchaachaaha’ Tate, and conducted by a Wichita conductor, Dr. Tracey Gregg-Boothby, will headline our performance at Carnegie Hall in New York City on April 1st, 2025 at 8:00 PM.

A lot of spaces in the music industry aren’t welcoming to diverse voices and that’s where ‘Aiga is different and why I love ‘Aiga. ‘Aiga is a safe space that welcomes everyone no matter their background.

I can go on and on about preaching that music isn’t what’s on paper, it’s how you feel it and how it’s delivered. Notation, pedagogy, language, etc… can be taught, but not feeling… A choir can sing with the best placement and diction, but if there’s no love, soul, or feeling - there’s no music.
